The Minister of Preschool and School Education of Uzbekistan, Hilola Umarova, sharply criticized the practice of involving teachers in non-core tasks, including collecting votes for the "Open Budget" project. In the Kuva district, a school principal withheld 700,000 soums monthly from teachers to secure the right votes for the "Open Budget" project. After this incident was publicized, his employment contract was terminated.

The Minister emphasized that in recent years, the authorities of Uzbekistan have been striving to free teachers from unnecessary burdens. However, there are still managers in the education system who demand unreasonable tasks from teachers, including collecting funds for various needs.

Hilola Umarova reminded that "Open Budget" was created for the transparency of the budget process and the active participation of citizens in the distribution of funds. However, any attempts to force or financial pressure on teachers will be strictly suppressed.

The "Open Budget" project has been developing in Uzbekistan since 2021 and has already allowed for the implementation of many initiatives, including the construction of playgrounds and road repairs. The authorities urge citizens to uphold its principles through honest methods, without violating the rights of education workers.
