The Russian Ministry of Defense Announced the Capture of Toretsk
According to the Ministry of Defense, after five months of battles, the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) have lost more than 26,000 soldiers and nearly 600 pieces of military equipment. The Russian ministry also stated that fighting is still ongoing for settlements that are part of the Toretsk agglomeration.

However, according to the Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs, battles for Toretsk are still ongoing. Nazar Voloshyn, a representative of the operational-strategic military group "Khortytsia", told RBK-Ukraine that fighting is currently taking place within the city’s residential areas, refuting claims that Russian forces have fully captured Toretsk.

According to the military project DeepState, fighting continues in the Zabalka neighborhood, as well as on the northern and western outskirts of Toretsk. "The city center is almost entirely under enemy control," the project authors wrote.

In a conversation with "Nova Gazeta Europe", an anonymous military expert stated: "Even if Toretsk is not yet fully under Russian control, it will be in the coming days." According to him, the next step for the Russian army will be an attempt to capture Kostiantynivka, which would bring Russia closer to the full occupation of Donetsk Oblast.

Russian forces reached the outskirts of Pokrovsk in August 2024, but for six months have been unable to seize this key strategic hub in western Donetsk Oblast. Battles for Toretsk began in September.
