The Senate approved the law on the transition to a mixed electoral system
Deputies of the Senate of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan at the 47th plenary session approved the constitutional law on the transition from majoritarian to mixed electoral system. This was reported by the press service of the Senate.

"After an active discussion the Law was approved by senators," the message reads.

It is noted that now the law will be sent to the head of state for signature. The document submitted to the Senate for approval provides for amendments and additions to the Electoral Code, as well as seven laws.

On 8 May, Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree on the drafting of a bill providing for the transfer of the electoral system in Uzbekistan to the majority-proportional form. The new law was approved by the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis on 31 October. Under the new system, 75 of the 150 deputies to the Legislative Chamber are elected on the basis of a proportional electoral system, that is, on the basis of votes cast for political parties on party candidate lists. The remaining 75 are elected by voting for a candidate in single-mandate constituencies.
