The US Decides to Halt Foreign Aid to Other Countries
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio issued an order on Saturday, January 25, freezing all existing international aid grants for 90 days and halting the issuance of new grants, Politico and Reuters write.

Previously, US President Donald Trump had ordered the suspension of aid payments to ensure that the allocation of these funds aligns with his foreign policy, journalists remind.

As reported by Reuters, they obtained a telegram prepared by the US State Department’s foreign aid division and approved by Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The telegram states that military financing has only been provided to Israel and Egypt. Israel receives approximately $3.3 billion annually, while Egypt receives $1.3 billion in foreign military financing.

The State Department's telegram emphasizes that senior officials must not take on new international aid commitments to the maximum extent permitted by law until Marco Rubio makes a decision based on the review results.

Meanwhile, since the start of the war in Ukraine, the total aid allocated by the US has exceeded $30 billion. According to USAID, $2.6 billion of these funds were directed towards humanitarian aid, and $5 billion went to support development.

It is expected that within 85 days of the publication of this directive, the State Department will present a report including Marco Rubio’s recommendations to President Donald Trump on which international aid programs should continue and which should be terminated.
