Touristic Boom: Uzbekistan Introduces New Measures to Attract Foreign Tourists
Uzbekistan
The President of Uzbekistan has signed a new decree aimed at improving tourism infrastructure and increasing the flow of foreign tourists. The innovations include preferential lending, the abolition of customs duties, and the creation of a new national tourism brand.
Starting from September 1, 2024, tour operators engaged in inbound tourism will be able to obtain loans at an annual rate of 14% to attract tourists from abroad. The loans will be provided through commercial banks for a term of 10 years with a grace period of 2 years. These measures are expected to stimulate the active development of inbound tourism in the country.
Additionally, until August 1, 2025, tour operators registered in the Republic of Karakalpakstan will be able to import vehicles with an engine capacity of at least 2.4 liters for organizing extreme tours, with customs and recycling fees paid in installments over 3 years. Furthermore, all entrepreneurs in the tourism sector will be exempt from customs duties when importing buses and minibuses.
To promote tourism abroad, Uzbekistan will create a new national tourism brand. The Tourism Committee will hold a competition to create the brand by October 1, 2024, and will organize the first global tourism media campaign. It is planned to attract up to 50 foreign journalists, bloggers, and influencers with an audience of over 10 million people in 2024–2025.
From January 1, 2025, entrepreneurs organizing business events with at least 100 foreign participants will pay 50% less profit tax on income from these events until January 1, 2028. Additionally, local budgets will allocate at least 1 billion soums for international tourism fairs and exhibitions.
These measures are aimed at strengthening Uzbekistan's position as a safe and attractive tourist destination, capable of competing on the international stage and attracting more foreign tourists.
