Trump Administration Admits: Musk’s DOGE Department Is Shut Down
World
The Trump administration has publicly acknowledged for the first time that the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), led by Elon Musk, effectively ceased to exist — eight months before the end of its official mandate.
The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), overseen by entrepreneur Elon Musk, was quietly shut down ahead of schedule, Reuters reports, citing Scott Couper, Director of the Office of Personnel Management.
According to Couper, DOGE “no longer exists” and is no longer a centralized body. Many of its key responsibilities have been transferred to the Office of Personnel Management, the federal government’s human-resources agency.
These remarks represent the first official confirmation from the Trump administration that DOGE has ended its operations. Since the summer, however, the president and his team had been signaling that the department had effectively stopped functioning, despite an executive order signed early in Trump’s term that was supposed to keep DOGE active until July 2026.
During its operation, the department oversaw the dismissal of hundreds of federal employees. DOGE claimed it had reduced government spending by tens of billions of dollars, but independent financial experts could not verify these figures — the department never released detailed public reports on its work.
