Trump Claims First U.S. Strike on Venezuelan Territory

Donald Trump has said the United States carried out its first-ever strike inside Venezuela, claiming a port area linked to drug trafficking was destroyed. No official confirmation has followed.
U.S. President Donald Trump said the United States has conducted its first strike on Venezuelan territory. According to him, the target was a port area allegedly used to load ships with narcotics.
“There was a massive explosion at the port where ships were loaded with drugs. We hit all the vessels, and now we’ve struck the area where they ran the whole operation. It’s gone,” Trump said.
The president was commenting on remarks he made on December 26 in an interview with New York radio station WABC, where he claimed the U.S. had “neutralized” a major facility from which drug-laden vessels departed.
However, there has been no official confirmation of a strike on Venezuelan territory. Neither U.S. military authorities nor the Venezuelan government have reported such an operation. Previously, Washington acknowledged only attacks on Venezuelan vessels at sea accused of drug trafficking — actions that drew strong criticism from Caracas.
The CIA, the White House, and the Pentagon declined to comment on reports of a possible strike on a ground target. Trump also did not specify which U.S. agency may have carried out the operation. In October, he said he had authorized the CIA to conduct operations inside Venezuela.
