Political

World diplomacy is at a standstill in anticipation: on May 14–15, Beijing will become the arena for the most critical negotiations of the decade. U.S. President Donald Trump intends to personally persuade Xi Jinping to reconsider China's relations with Moscow and Tehran. At stake are not just trade preferences, but global stability—the outcome of this meeting will determine whether the world follows a path of escalation or finds a way to end the major conflicts of our time.

Trump in Beijing: A Grand Bargain or an Ultimatum for Xi Jinping?
Official Beijing has confirmed the dates for Donald Trump’s visit to the PRC—the meeting between the leaders of the two superpowers will take place on May 14–15. The trip, originally scheduled for early spring, was postponed by the White House due to the crisis surrounding Iran. Now, Washington intends to use this visit to exert direct pressure on China regarding its support for strategic partners—Russia and Iran.

According to Reuters, the Trump administration is deeply concerned about the scale of China's economic, trade, and military-technical cooperation with Moscow and Tehran. The U.S. plans to offer Beijing a deal: a reduction in support for these countries in exchange for eased sanction pressure and new trade preferences. For Trump, this visit is an attempt to secure a more balanced position from the PRC amid the prolonged conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East.

Experts are calling the May negotiations the key diplomatic event of the year. The outcome of the meeting will define not only the vector of U.S.-China relations but also the format of the new global balance of power. Beijing has so far withheld detailed comments; however, its readiness to host the American leader signals a desire by both sides to find a compromise under conditions of extreme geopolitical tension.
