Uzbekistan and China Expand Partnership to Combat Desertification

Uzbekistan and China continue to strengthen cooperation in environmental protection and the sustainable management of natural resources. A presentation and exhibition highlighting China's experience in preventing desertification and restoring degraded ecosystems was held at the Central Asian Center for Ecology and Environmental Research.
The event, titled Advanced Practices in Building an Ecological Protective Barrier in Inner Mongolia, was organized by the Forestry Agency under Uzbekistan's National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change in cooperation with China's Forestry and Grassland Administration. Participants included Aziz Abdukhakimov, Adviser to the President of Uzbekistan on Environmental Issues and Chairman of the National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change; Forestry Agency Director Erkin Mukhitdinov; Shi Guanghui, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region; as well as representatives of government agencies, research institutions and international organizations.
The discussions focused on preventing desertification, restoring degraded land, expanding forest cover and introducing innovative technologies in forestry and grassland management. The exhibition showcased the results of Inner Mongolia's state program to build an ecological protective barrier. Participants also viewed the documentary Green Silk Road: A New Life in the Desert, dedicated to China's Three-North Shelterbelt Forest Program.
The event concluded with the signing of a cooperation agreement between M-Grass Ecology And Environment Group Co., Ltd. and Green University. The agreement provides for joint projects in seed and seedling production, restoration of degraded grasslands, combating desertification and the introduction of advanced environmental technologies, complementing earlier Uzbekistan–China agreements in this field.
