Trump plans to sell a “gold card” for $5 million, granting foreigners the right to live and work in the US

Today, February 26, US President Donald Trump announced the launch of a program to sell a "gold card", which will allow wealthy foreigners to obtain the right to live and work in the US for $5 million, as well as open a pathway to citizenship.
“We’re going to be selling a gold card,” Trump said at the White House. “You have a green card. This is a gold card. We’re setting a price of $5 million, and it will provide the same privileges as a green card, plus a pathway to citizenship. Wealthy people will be able to buy this card and come to our country,” he added.
Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick emphasized that the gold card will replace the government's EB-5 immigrant investor visa program.
“They’ll have to go through vetting, of course, to make sure they are truly world-class global citizens,” Lutnick explained.
According to Trump, the sale of these cards will begin in about two weeks, and millions of them could be sold. “From a legal standpoint, it’s totally legal to do,” he stated.
When asked whether Russian oligarchs could also buy these gold cards, Trump responded: “Yes, possibly. I know some Russian oligarchs who are very nice people.”
