Trump Wants to Join Forces with Russia and China

Donald Trump plans to hold negotiations with Russia and China on nuclear arms control. The U.S. leader made this statement on Thursday, February 13, in the Oval Office of the White House.
Trump hopes that the three countries will reach an agreement and cut defense budgets in half. "We don’t need to develop new nuclear weapons—we already have enough… We are all spending too much money, which could be directed toward other, much more productive projects," the U.S. leader said.
Trump also added that such negotiations could begin "once we settle matters in the Middle East and Ukraine."
The AP agency recalls that during his first presidential term, Trump tried to involve China in nuclear arms reduction talks but did not succeed.
Earlier, the U.S. president stated that Russia's return to the club of the world's most developed nations—the G8—could be the right decision. "I would really like them to return. I think it was a mistake to kick them out. Look, it's not about whether I like Russia or not. It was the G8," Trump said in an interview with Reuters.
"I said: ‘What are you doing? You guys keep talking about Russia, but they should be at the negotiating table.’ I think Putin would be happy to return," he added.
For reference, Russia was a member of the "Group of Eight" from 1997 to 2014. However, after the annexation of Crimea in 2014, the G8 dissolved, and the group continued as the G7. Its members now include the U.S., the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Canada, and Japan.
