U.S. President Donald Trump is considering ending the military conflict with Iran without a new nuclear agreement if Tehran fully restores shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. The Wall Street Journal reported this, citing U.S. officials.
According to the newspaper, Trump has privately discussed with senior aides the possibility of declaring that the United States has achieved its military objectives if commercial shipping through the strait is fully restored.
Under such a scenario, the president could extend the ceasefire indefinitely and refrain from further military action. Washington and Tehran, however, remain divided over the conditions for reopening the waterway.
Iran’s nuclear programme remains a separate issue in the negotiations. Assessments based on International Atomic Energy Agency data indicate that Iran had 440.9 kilograms of uranium enriched up to 60% before the 2025 strikes. Its precise location and condition following the attacks remain an international concern.
