Türkiye Is Building Frigates, a Destroyer, Submarines and an Aircraft Carrier Simultaneously

Türkiye’s shipbuilding industry is simultaneously carrying out a broad range of naval projects, spanning frigates and patrol vessels to an air-defence destroyer, submarines and an aircraft carrier. Turkish shipyards are also pursuing export contracts in parallel, expanding the scale of the country’s naval shipbuilding programme.
Currently under construction for the Turkish Navy are seven İSTİF-class frigates, eight HİSAR-class patrol vessels, one TF-2000 air-defence destroyer and three REİS-class (Type 214TN) submarines. The programme also includes a domestically developed fast attack craft, the MİLDEN national submarine and the MUGEM aircraft carrier.
Five national minehunters are also being built. At the same time, one İSTİF-class frigate and one HİSAR-class patrol vessel have already entered service with the Turkish Navy. Another HİSAR-class vessel has been exported.
Turkish shipyards are also expanding their presence in export markets. Three MİLGEM ADA-class corvettes being built for the Royal Malaysian Navy were launched within a period of just four months.
The simultaneous execution of projects across different vessel categories reflects the expansion of Türkiye’s shipbuilding capacity. Domestic shipbuilding programmes are being carried out alongside contracts for foreign customers.
The overall programme covers major categories of naval platforms, ranging from patrol vessels and frigates to destroyers, submarines and an aircraft carrier. The scale of construction provides the basis for further development of Türkiye’s naval industrial capabilities while supporting both domestic fleet requirements and export orders.
