Ukraine Reports New Strikes on Russia’s “Shadow Fleet”

Ukraine has reported a new wave of strikes against Russian maritime infrastructure, claiming that dozens of vessels associated with what Kyiv describes as Russia's “shadow fleet” were hit. The developments were followed by reports of temporary shipping restrictions in the Azov–Don Sea Canal and the Kerch Strait.
According to Robert Brovdi, Commander of Ukraine's Unmanned Systems Forces, Ukrainian drones struck 28 vessels in the Sea of Azov during the night of July 11, including 21 tankers, four tugboats, two cargo ships and one special-purpose vessel. He also stated that Ukrainian forces had attacked a total of 76 vessels between July 6 and July 11 that Kyiv considers part of Russia's “shadow fleet.”
Ukraine further reported strikes on 53 military targets in Crimea and other Russian-controlled southern territories, including naval assets and energy infrastructure.
Russian authorities, meanwhile, reported attacks on four vessels in Taganrog Bay. According to the Governor of the Rostov region, one of the targeted ships was a methanol tanker, and one sailor was killed in the incident.
At the same time, Reuters, citing sources, reported that following the large-scale drone attacks Russia temporarily suspended shipping through the Azov–Don Sea Canal, an important route used for grain exports. The agency also reported a temporary suspension of vessel traffic through the Kerch Strait. These reports had not been officially confirmed by Russian authorities at the time of publication.
