Ukraine Says It Struck Nine Tankers of Russia’s “Shadow Fleet”

Ukrainian forces have reported a large-scale overnight attack targeting Russian maritime and oil infrastructure. On the night of July 8, Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces struck nine tankers belonging to Russia’s so-called “shadow fleet” in the Sea of Azov, according to unit commander Robert Brovdi.

Russian authorities confirmed that two tankers heading toward Rostov-on-Don were damaged in the Taganrog Bay. Rostov region Governor Yuri Slyusar said both vessels were empty. The crew of one tanker was evacuated, while two people suffered minor injuries.

Drone attacks were also reported in several Russian regions during the same night. An infrastructure facility caught fire in the Voronezh region. Independent sources said the blaze may have occurred at the Borisoglebsk military airfield.

In Nizhnekamsk, drones targeted an industrial zone housing oil refining facilities. Authorities in the Saratov region reported one death, several injuries and damage to civilian infrastructure. Reports also emerged of a fire at the Saratov oil refinery following the drone attack.
