UN chief asks donor nations to continue funding UNRWA
UN Secretary-General António Guterres on 30 January met behind closed doors with representatives of 35 donor countries and called on those states that have suspended funding for the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) to reverse the decision.

At the same time, Guterres told donors about the measures taken against 12 UNRWA staff members.

US Permanent Representative to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield responded that Washington's resumption of funding for UNRWA was impossible without "fundamental change" in the agency.

"We need to look at the organization, how it operates in Gaza, how they manage their staff and to ensure that people who commit criminal acts, such as these 12 individuals, are held accountable immediately so that UNRWA can continue the essential work that it’s doing," Thomas-Greenfield said.
