UNICEF says more than 2,300 children have been killed since the beginning of the conflict in the Gaza Strip.

At least 2.3 thousand children have been killed and more than 5.3 thousand injured since the beginning of the conflict in the Gaza Strip. The UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) said in a statement.

"Over the past 18 days, the Gaza Strip has witnessed devastating losses among its children, with a reported 2,360 killed and 5,364 injured as a result of ongoing attacks," the statement said.

The statement elaborated that more than 400 children are killed or injured every day. "This 18-day period represents the deadliest escalation of fighting in the Gaza Strip and Israel that the UN has witnessed since 2006," the statement said.

Also, the Palestinian enclave's health ministry said the number of Palestinians killed in Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip since the start of the conflict in the Middle East has surpassed 5,000, with more than 15,000 injured. According to the ministry, in the last 24 hours alone, 436 Palestinians, including 182 children, were killed by Israeli shelling.
