US implements new color-coded system to warn about heat danger
World
The USA has introduced a purple level of threat due to extremely hot weather. This is reported by the Associated Press news agency.
The previous version of the tool included white, yellow, orange, and red levels, where white indicated no health risks due to temperatures, and red represented a serious risk for anyone lacking access to cooling and an adequate amount of drinking water.
The purple level corresponds to a danger not only to health but also to life. It is planned to be declared in cases where very intense heat persists for a prolonged period and does not decrease even at night.
Scientists emphasised that declaring a purple heat danger level will be necessary in the very near future as heat waves are becoming more intense and longer lasting every year.
