According to Rubio, Zelensky should apologize because he "turned this situation into a personal tragedy".

"He should not have gone into the meeting with Trump and provoked a confrontation," the Secretary of State said.

Rubio also suggested that Zelensky may not actually want a peace agreement.

"He says so, but perhaps that is not true," added the U.S. Secretary of State.

Zelensky arrived in the U.S. on February 28 to sign an agreement on rare earth metals. However, during his meeting with Donald Trump and U.S. Vice President Jay Vance, a dispute arose. As a result, Zelensky left the White House early, and the agreement was not signed.

Germany and Europe expressed astonishment at Zelensky's reception at the White House.

"Ukraine is Europe! We stand with Ukraine and will increase support so that it can continue resisting the aggressor. Today, it has become clear that the free world needs a new leader. We, Europeans, must accept this challenge," wrote the EU’s top diplomat Kaja Kallas on X.

Following the conclusion of Trump and Zelensky's negotiations, which ended in a dispute between the two presidents, Italy’s Prime Minister called for an emergency EU summit with U.S. participation.
