US forces repelled an Iranian threat: an Iranian drone was shot down over the Arabian Sea, and an attempt to seize an American tanker in the Strait of Hormuz was thwarted.

US Shoots Down Iranian Drone, Protects Tanker in Strait of Hormuz
Today, a US F-35C fighter shot down an Iranian Shahed-139 drone that was “aggressively approaching” the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, located approximately 800 kilometers off Iran’s southern coast. No American personnel were harmed, Bloomberg reports, citing US Central Command.

Captain Tim Hawkins, a spokesperson for the carrier, said the drone maneuvered toward the ship without cause and was subsequently shot down.

Shortly after, a group of Iranian boats approached the US-flagged tanker Stena Imperative in the Strait of Hormuz. The vessels were also accompanied by an Iranian Mohajer drone. According to the US, people on the boats demanded the tanker stop its engine and prepare for boarding, but the vessel accelerated and continued under the protection of a US destroyer and aircraft.

Iran’s Fars news agency claims the tanker entered Iranian territorial waters without authorization, received a warning, and left the area. The United States denies these claims.

The incidents underscore ongoing tensions between Iran and the United States in the strategically vital Persian Gulf region.
