USA urges Ukraine to halt strikes on Russian oil refineries
World
Washington fears that drone strikes will lead to a rise in global oil prices and provoke Russia to retaliate. This is reported by the Financial Times.
The reason is that Russia remains one of the world's largest energy exporters despite the sanctions. Because of the attacks on refineries, oil prices have risen by about 15% to $85 a barrel in 2024.
Washington is also concerned that if strikes on Russian facilities continue, Russian Federation could retaliate against the energy infrastructure on which the West relies. For example, the CPC pipeline, which carries oil from Kazakhstan through Russia to the world market, is under threat.
