Uzbekistan

Starting in 2025, all Uzbek schoolchildren, regardless of the language of instruction, will be required to take the state language exam. The relevant order was signed by the Minister of Education, Hilola Umarova.

Uzbek language has become mandatory for graduation exams
According to the order of the Minister of Preschool and School Education dated April 9, high school graduates of non-Uzbek schools, including Russian, Karakalpak, Tajik, Kazakh, Turkmen, and Kyrgyz classes, will now be required to take a mandatory exam in Uzbek as a state language subject.

For 9th grades, this will be written work. The same is stipulated for 11th grades. Students studying in the Uzbek language, as before, take the exam in the subject "Mother Tongue and Literature."

At the same time, graduates are also expected to take mandatory exams in mathematics, Uzbekistan history, physical education (for 9th grades), and other specialized subjects.

Students with recognized national or international certificates in foreign languages or other subjects may be exempt from the relevant examinations. The list of valid certificates will be approved by the Ministry.

Representatives of citizens' self-government bodies and members of the supervisory boards will be able to observe the transparency of the examination processes.

This step is considered an important element of integration and improving the level of state language proficiency among young people, regardless of the language of instruction.
