Uzbek leader visits major chemical plant in Kokand
For the financial rehabilitation and diversification of the former Kokand superphosphate plant, it was sold to the Singaporean company Indorama Holdings BV with investment obligations in 2019. Based on this, Indorama Kokand Fertilizers and Chemicals was established. $70 million of foreign investment was attracted, and the production was modernized. Modern equipment from leading companies in Spain, the USA, China, India, Turkey, Spain, and Russia was installed. An additional 150 jobs were created.

The enterprise is capable of exporting products worth $30 million annually. To date, mineral fertilizers are exported to 16 countries in the CIS, Europe, Africa, and Asia.

The head of state toured the plant and familiarized himself with the production process. It was noted that the enterprise should become a major chemical cluster, serving as both an economic and social example. In this context, there was an exchange of views on the prospects for building modern housing, schools, and hospitals for the plant workers and their families.

The enterprise is steadily developing, and work on the next stages is underway. As part of the second stage, $50 million in investments have been utilized. Modern technological equipment from Switzerland, Germany, India, China, and Italy has been installed. This stage will produce potassium sulfate, sulfuric acid, and ammonium chloride fertilizers worth $24 million annually. An additional 120 jobs will be created.

The third stage is planned for 2025-2028. The production of mono- and dicalcium phosphates, potassium nitrate, nitrogen-phosphorus-potassium (NPK) complex fertilizers, calcium chloride, monoammonium phosphate, and monopotassium phosphate will be established. The project's cost is $100 million. An additional 235 jobs will be created.
