Uzbekistan and Algeria to Expand Parliamentary and Economic Cooperation

Tanzila Narbayeva, Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan, met with Jamila Ashur, the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria to Uzbekistan. The two sides discussed expanding parliamentary dialogue and developing cooperation in the political, trade and economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres.
Particular attention was given to exchanging legislative experience, strengthening parliamentary friendship groups and expanding practical engagement between the two countries’ parliaments.
In the economic sphere, the sides identified prospects for cooperation in agriculture, food processing and industrial cooperation. They also highlighted the importance of continuing interaction within international organizations.
The cultural and humanitarian agenda included studying the heritage of Islamic civilization, developing ties between academic and educational institutions, and organizing Days of Culture and art exhibitions in Tashkent and Algiers.
The meeting also addressed cooperation and experience-sharing on increasing women’s role in society, promoting gender equality, combating human trafficking, advancing sustainable development and fighting corruption.
Representatives of the Algerian Parliament were invited to participate in the 12th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, scheduled to take place in Samarkand on September 4–6, 2026. The Senate has separately confirmed the planned dates and location of the conference.
