Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan discuss simplified border crossing regime
Political
Crossing the border between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan can be made easier: countries are discussing the possibility of using ID cards instead of foreign passports. This step will simplify travel and strengthen bilateral ties.
On the initiative of the Embassy of Uzbekistan, an online meeting was held between representatives of the relevant ministries and departments of the two countries. The main topic of the discussion was the mutual recognition of national ID cards as an official document for crossing the border.
The parties noted that this step will not only facilitate travel for citizens, but also strengthen economic, cultural and tourism cooperation. If a decision is made, Uzbeks and Azerbaijanis will no longer need to issue a passport to cross the border - ID cards will become a sufficient document.
In addition, such a step can have a positive impact on migration policy, improve the conditions for businessmen and tourists, as well as strengthen the integration of the two countries.
