Uzbekistan and China deepen cooperation: new prospects and initiatives

On 28 February, in Tashkent during the international conference "Uzbekistan and China: promoting mutually beneficial cooperation for the benefit of the peoples of the two countries" the results of the state visit of the President of Uzbekistan to China on 23-25 January were discussed. This is reported by Dunyo news agency.

It is reported that the event was attended by more than 200 representatives of ministries and agencies, leading analytical and research centres of Uzbekistan and China, business circles of China, including China Energy, BYD Uzbekistan Factory, Power China, ZTE Investment and Asia Trans Gas. In addition, a number of leading experts joined the forum from Beijing and Shanghai in online mode.

It was noted that Uzbekistan was the first country in Central Asia to establish diplomatic relations with China. The high level of Uzbek-Chinese relations can give a positive impetus to the development of agriculture, construction, tourism and education throughout Central Asia.

It was emphasised that recent years have been marked by the rapid growth of trade and investment exchange between Uzbekistan and China. The volume of mutual trade in 2023 approached $14 billion. In the coming years, trade turnover may increase to $20 billion.

At the end of the conference, the participants made proposals to expand mutually beneficial cooperation in the spheres of trade and investment, transport and communications, automotive industry, green economy, education and tourism, as well as to hold annual Forums of Regional Cooperation in China and Uzbekistan in turn.
