Uzbekistan Appoints New Ambassador to Turkmenistan

On November 28, Ravshanbek Alimov, the newly appointed Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Uzbekistan, visited the capital of Turkmenistan. He had previously served as the Chairman of the Committee on International Relations, Foreign Economic Affairs, Foreign Investments, and Tourism in the Senate of the Oliy Majlis from 2020 to 2024.

The 58-year-old diplomat graduated from the Bauman Moscow State Technical University, the State Academy of Management under the President of Uzbekistan, and Georgetown University (USA). He began his career in 1990 at the regional level within the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations (now the Ministry of Investments, Industry, and Trade).

Later, he worked in various positions, including at the office of the President of Uzbekistan, the Prime Minister’s Secretariat, and the Ministry of Macroeconomics and Statistics. From 2002 to 2008, he served as Uzbekistan's Ambassador to Ukraine and, on a rotational basis, as Ambassador to Moldova, France, and Portugal.

Ravshanbek Alimov has been working within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) since 2008. Over the years, he has held positions as a counselor at the Uzbek Embassy in Moscow, as well as a department head and director at the MFA's central office.

In 2020, he was elected a senator. Ravshanbek Alimov, the Chairman of the Committee on International Relations, Foreign Economic Affairs, Foreign Investments, and Tourism of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, was appointed in place of Akmal Ko'chkorov, who served as Uzbekistan’s Ambassador to Ashgabat from 2016 to 2024.

The newly appointed ambassador is fluent in English, French, Russian, and Ukrainian.
