Uzbekistan Ends the Year Leading World Wrestling
World Greco-Roman wrestling champion Aytjan Kholmakhanov has topped the United World Wrestling (UWW) world rankings in December 2025. The latest rankings place three members of Uzbekistan’s national team at No. 1 in their respective weight categories.

Alongside Kholmakhanov in the 63 kg category, Alisher Ganiev (60 kg) and Abdullo Aliev (72 kg) also finished the year at the top of the global rankings. All three athletes delivered consistently strong performances throughout the season, earning valuable ranking points at major international competitions.

Kholmakhanov’s achievement is particularly significant. By winning gold at the World Championships in Zagreb, Croatia, he became the first Uzbek Greco-Roman wrestler in 24 years to claim a world title.

Uzbekistan’s dominance in the UWW rankings highlights the steady progress of its wrestling program and the country’s growing influence on the global wrestling stage.
