Uzbekistan Increases Investments in Medical Infrastructure

The government continues active development of the healthcare system: medical facilities across the republic are being equipped with modern technology, with hundreds of billions of soums allocated for this purpose and foreign investments attracted.

Uzbekistan Increases Investments in Medical Infrastructure
Annually, Uzbekistan’s budget allocates no less than 100 billion soums for the purchase of medical equipment. In 2024, an additional $200 million in foreign investments and $94 million in grants were secured, enabling the installation of CT scanners, MRI machines, and angiographs in regional and district hospitals. This has made specialized medical care more accessible to the population.

For 2025, the state budget has earmarked 200 billion soums for healthcare modernization, with plans to attract an additional $370 million in foreign investments.

Key projects for 2025:

Equipment for maternity facilities: $100 million from the Asian Development Bank will be used to purchase 21,000 pieces of equipment of 45 types and six ambulances for 230 medical institutions.

Cardiovascular treatment equipment: Using €30 million from Germany’s KfW bank, 862 units of equipment will be installed in 19 facilities in Karakalpakstan and Khorezm.

Training center in Termez: A grant of €13.5 million from KfW will fund the construction of a center equipped with modern simulation tools and a dormitory for students.

The President emphasized that the modernization of medical facilities must be accompanied by the training of qualified specialists. Plans include organizing training for doctors and nurses to operate the new equipment.

However, challenges remain: the average utilization rate of angiographs is only 34%, and the use of CT scanners varies significantly across regions. To address these issues, outsourcing and public-private partnership projects will be implemented to improve the efficiency of medical equipment usage.

Strengthening medical infrastructure has thus become a priority aimed at enhancing the accessibility and quality of healthcare services in the country.
