WTO Silk Road Office Opens in Samarkand

A thematic office of the World Tourism Organization (WTO) titled “Silk Road Tourism” has been officially opened in Samarkand.

The opening ceremony was attended by members of the WTO delegation led by Secretary-General Shaikha Nasser Al Nowais. The new mini-center aims to promote tourism based on the rich historical and cultural heritage of the Silk Road.

The office is expected to serve as a platform for expanding international cooperation, increasing tourist inflows, and implementing new tourism projects.

During their visit, the WTO delegation is also exploring Samarkand’s key cultural heritage sites as well as the activities of a university specializing in tourism education.

The opening of the office is seen as an important step in strengthening Uzbekistan’s position on the global tourism map and advancing Silk Road tourism routes.
