The Muslim Board of Uzbekistan has responded to reports circulating on social media about a criminal case being initiated against the head of the "Waqf" charitable public fund, as well as claims that vests and bags distributed to Hajj and Umrah pilgrims were procured based on personal connections between the contractor and the client.
According to an official statement from the Muslim Board of Uzbekistan, the criminal case against the fund’s head is related to his activities before assuming this position.
The statement emphasizes that, according to its charter, the Muslim Board of Uzbekistan is a non-governmental, non-commercial organization that does not engage in commercial activities. The expenses of the religious board are covered by donations received from mosques, pilgrimage sites, and various charitable activities.
It is also noted that a separate tender is conducted to select organizations responsible for producing clothing and bags for pilgrims. The results of the tender are reviewed by the Public Council, and contracts are signed with the winning organizations in accordance with the established regulations.
"It should be emphasized that the criminal case initiated against the head of the 'Waqf' charitable public fund is related to his activities before taking office. Investigations have not confirmed any cases of misappropriation or misuse of the fund’s resources. The fund operates based on legislative acts and decisions of the Board of Trustees, which regularly monitors its compliance with Islamic requirements and legal regulations," the Muslim Board of Uzbekistan stated.
