A $250 Bill Featuring Donald Trump Could Be Introduced in the U.S.
World
South Carolina Representative Joe Wilson is drafting a bill to introduce a new $250 bill featuring President Donald Trump.
This proposal would require changes to U.S. law, as current legislation prohibits the depiction of living individuals on American currency.
In his social media statement, Joe Wilson praised Trump’s economic policies and promoted the idea of the banknote:
"I’m pleased to announce that I am drafting legislation to issue a $250 bill featuring Donald J. Trump. Bidenflation has wrecked the economy, forcing American families to carry more cash. The most valuable bill for the most valuable president!" Wilson wrote.
However, current laws forbid this. In 1866, Congress passed a law prohibiting living people from appearing on U.S. banknotes, bonds, or securities. This rule was established after public outrage erupted when Treasury official Spencer Clark’s portrait appeared on a 5-cent note.
Congressional Republicans have previously put forward various proposals to honor Trump, including:
Making his birthday a national holiday,
Adding his face to Mount Rushmore,
Allowing him to run for a third presidential term.
It remains unclear whether these proposals will materialize, but they have generated significant interest among Trump supporters.
