Akhror Burkhanov Appointed Head of Uzbekistan Consulate in Seattle
Uzbekistan
Uzbekistan has launched a Consulate General in Seattle, Washington, USA. Its first head is career diplomat Akhror Burkhanov, previously press secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and a staff member at the Uzbekistan Embassy in the United States.
The opening of consulates in Seattle, Philadelphia, Chicago, and Orlando follows a presidential decree establishing the Uzbek-American Business and Investment Council. The new consulates aim to effectively engage with Uzbek diasporas across all U.S. states, strengthen investment and trade cooperation, and support the work of the embassy’s advisor-envoy in Washington, held by Komil Allamjonov.
Previously, Uzbekistan had only two diplomatic missions in the U.S.: the embassy in Washington, D.C., and a consulate general in New York.
Akhror Burkhanov brings extensive diplomatic experience: he worked at the Uzbekistan Embassy in the U.S., overseeing media, public diplomacy, tourism, education, healthcare, and bilateral relations with Brazil. In 2023, he was appointed press secretary of the MFA and advisor to the minister on information policy.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the International Westminster University in Tashkent and a master’s in development policy from the School of Public Policy and Management at the Korea Development Institute. The new consulate is expected to become a hub of Uzbekistan’s diplomatic, cultural, and economic activity in the region.
