Uzbekistan plans to join international agreements on nuclear safety

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has signed a decree aimed at improving the state control system in the fields of industrial, radiation, and nuclear safety, reports Kazinform.
The document envisions preparations for the country's accession to several international agreements in the area of nuclear safety.
- Approve the list of international agreements on nuclear safety proposed for the Republic of Uzbekistan's accession, — the decree states.
The list includes:
The Vienna Convention on Civil Liability for Nuclear Damage,
The Convention on Assistance in the Case of a Nuclear or Radiological Emergency,
The Convention on Early Notification of a Nuclear Accident,
The Convention on Nuclear Safety.
Earlier, it was reported that Uzbekistan and the IAEA plan to expand cooperation in the field of nuclear energy.
Additionally, the director of Uzbekistan's Atomic Energy Agency, Azim Ahmedkhadjaev, stated that Uzbekistan will explore the use of small nuclear reactors in collaboration with China.
