At least 30 Palestinians were killed on Saturday as a result of Israeli strikes on the Gaza Strip, according to local hospital officials.
Medical sources said the attacks targeted northern and southern areas of the enclave, including Gaza City and Khan Younis.
The Al-Shifa Hospital reported that a strike on Gaza City killed a woman, her three children, and a relative. Meanwhile, Nasser Hospital said an airstrike hit a tent camp in southern Gaza, triggering a fire that killed seven people, including a man, his three children, and three grandchildren.
The strikes came a day before the expected opening of the Rafah border crossing, located in the southernmost part of the Gaza Strip.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said the attacks were carried out in response to violations of the ceasefire agreement and targeted commanders and infrastructure belonging to Hamas and Islamic Jihad.
“Any violation of the agreement is treated with utmost seriousness,” the IDF and the Shin Bet security service said in a joint statement, adding they would continue to act against any attempts to carry out attacks against Israeli forces and civilians.
Border crossings into Gaza have remained closed since the war began in October 2023. Palestinians view the Rafah crossing with Egypt as a critical lifeline for tens of thousands in need of medical treatment outside the enclave, where much of the healthcare infrastructure has been destroyed.
According to Gaza’s Ministry of Health, more than 500 Palestinians have been killed since the ceasefire began on October 10 last year.
