US President Joe Biden has signed a bill aimed at potentially banning the social media platform TikTok. CNN reports this.

Biden signed a law that could block TikTok in the US
According to the bill, the Chinese company ByteDance must sell TikTok within 270 days, otherwise the social network will be banned in the US.

January 19, 2025 is the deadline for the sale of TikTok, but Biden can extend it for another 90 days if he sees progress towards the sale, CNN writes.

The CEO of the company, Shou Chu, called the law unconstitutional and noted that it will destroy 170 million users of the platform in the US and 7 million companies that work with the app.

The US intentions to ban the social network are related to concerns from American lawmakers and intelligence officials that TikTok's owner could jeopardize US user data. This is primarily linked to China's national security law, which could compel companies located there to hand over internal information.
