Borders of Three Countries Definitively Defined

March 31 became a historic day as an event of immense significance took place in Khujand. For the first time in the independent development of Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan, a treaty was signed regarding the intersection point of the three countries' state borders.

Borders of Three Countries Definitively Defined
This historic agreement opens a new chapter in the region’s history, resolves a "century-old issue," and lays a solid foundation for the long-term stability and prosperity of the entire region.

For decades, unresolved border issues—especially in the densely populated Fergana Valley—have been a source of tension and conflicts. In this area, citizens of all three countries live side by side, sometimes on different sides of the same street. The border agreement between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, along with today's trilateral treaty, will fundamentally change this situation, eliminating potential sources of disputes.

Now that the borders have been definitively established, vast opportunities are opening up for expanding trade, economic, transport, cultural-humanitarian, and environmental cooperation. The unprecedented economic impact of this agreement will soon become evident.

In 2017–2018, agreements were signed regarding the Uzbekistan-Kyrgyzstan state border, the intersection point of the borders of Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Turkmenistan, as well as border demarcation treaties between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.

The achievement of such agreements became possible thanks to the strong political will, pragmatic approach, and commitment to cooperation and mutual understanding of all Central Asian leaders.

One of the most significant outcomes is that the international community has begun to perceive Central Asia as a unified region with a shared identity and interconnected interests.

Overall, these historic achievements are a clear example that even the most complex issues can be effectively resolved through open dialogue, mutual respect, and trust. Today, Central Asia is an entirely new region—united, strong, and open to the world and extensive partnerships. And that is undoubtedly a cause for celebration!
