U.S. preparing new sanctions package against Russia, but Trump yet to decide — Reuters

U.S. officials have drafted a new sanctions package targeting Russia’s banking and energy sectors in an effort to increase pressure on Moscow and support President Donald Trump’s push to end the war in Ukraine, Reuters reports, citing three U.S. officials and another informed source.
A Trump administration official, speaking anonymously, said the sanctions could target Russian gas giant Gazprom and major companies in the energy and banking industries. The U.S. National Security Council is reportedly working to coordinate "more punitive measures" against Russia — but Trump has the final say.
“It’s entirely his decision,” a second U.S. official told Reuters. The U.S. Treasury Department, which implements most American sanctions, declined to comment on the matter.
Should Trump approve the new sanctions, it would follow the recent U.S.-Ukraine mineral resources agreement that he championed as part of his peace efforts. According to Reuters, this could signal a hardening of Trump’s stance toward the Kremlin.
