The Canadian government has announced a 100% tariff on imports of Chinese electric vehicles. This decision aligns with similar actions taken by the U.S. and the EU against Chinese products.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stated that the tariff is a response to China’s attempts to gain an unfair advantage in the global market. Additionally, a 25% tariff will be imposed on Chinese steel and aluminum imports.

China has yet to respond to Canada’s decision, but experts anticipate potential retaliatory measures, particularly against Canadian exports.

Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland indicated that Canada is also considering tariffs on Chinese batteries, semiconductors, and solar panels. These measures are aimed at protecting Canada’s industries from Chinese competition.

Earlier this year, the U.S. and the EU introduced their own tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles and other industrial goods, citing the need to support domestic production.
