Central Asia and Germany: Strengthening Strategic Partnerships

On September 17, Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev participated in the second "Central Asia - Germany" summit in Astana. The summit focused on deepening multifaceted cooperation between the regions, addressing key areas such as investment, "green" energy, and logistics.
Leaders from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Germany’s Chancellor Olaf Scholz also attended the event. Discussions centered on expanding strategic partnerships, particularly in technology, energy, and education. President Mirziyoyev praised Germany’s continued support for democratic reforms in Central Asia and highlighted the need to intensify cooperation.
President Mirziyoyev proposed a long-term Partnership Development Concept aimed at strengthening cooperation between Central Asia and Germany. He suggested establishing an annual forum of analytical centers, with the first meeting to be held in Khiva. This initiative would foster investment and technological collaboration across the region.
One of the key topics was the cooperation on the extraction and processing of critical raw materials. Mirziyoyev emphasized that implementing digital maps for mineral deposits and collaborating on joint projects with Germany would enhance the region's potential. He called for increased collaboration on renewable energy projects, noting the rapid development of solar, wind, and hydroenergy in the region.
The summit also touched on climate action, with President Mirziyoyev suggesting joint educational programs on environmental issues. The importance of Germany's technological support for sustainable resource management and low-carbon economy was underscored.
