The defense expenditures of the People's Republic of China (PRC) are expected to reach 1.78 trillion yuan this year, according to reports from the session of the National People's Congress (NPC).
On March 5, during the 3rd session of the 14th National People's Congress in Beijing, the Chinese government announced that the country's military budget will increase by 7.2% in 2025, reaching 1.78 trillion yuan (approximately 231 billion euros).
According to DPA news agency, a similar increase was recorded last year. In the near future, China is expected to become the world's leading country in terms of defense spending. Since taking office in 2013, Chinese President Xi Jinping has been carrying out large-scale modernization of the People's Liberation Army.
The Chinese government plans to build a "world-class military" by 2049. Official Beijing asserts that its military investments are not intended for aggression but rather for protecting the nation's sovereignty.
