With the participation of the World Bank, an alternative route for the Tashkent-Andijan road has been designed. The 314 km high-speed highway is expected to reduce the travel time between the two cities from 5 hours to 3 hours, decrease the number of road accidents by 40%, and increase GDP by 2.6%. "This will be an artery connecting the capital to the valley, where over 10.5 million people live. Therefore, the president emphasized the importance of this project once again," said Transport Minister Ilkhom Mahkamov in an interview with Uzbekistan 24 TV channel.

According to the minister, over 30 foreign companies have shown interest in the project. "We will begin construction works this year," said Mahkamov.

The transport minister also discussed plans to start the construction of a toll road between Tashkent and Samarkand in 2025. This involves a six-lane road with a total length of 300 km.

"All project documents have been completed, and we are conducting tender procedures. Construction work on this project is also planned for this year. Our esteemed president set the task to hold the tender in full compliance with the rules, but without wasting unnecessary time, so that construction on these two roads can start as soon as possible," he noted.

In accordance with the resolution on the development of public-private partnerships from 2024 to 2030, it was planned in December last year to determine the contractor, sign a contract, and start construction. The work is expected to be completed by the end of 2028, with management transferred to a private operator based on a PPP model. The initial cost of the Tashkent-Samarkand road is estimated at 2.2 billion dollars.
