An experienced economist and manager, Nadji Benhassine officially assumed responsibilities as the head of World Bank operations in Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan. He replaces Tatiana Proskuryakova, who held the position from July 2021 to June 2025.

“It is a great honor for me to lead such important and multifaceted work in a region of over 80 million people that is undergoing rapid development,” Benhassine stated. He expressed his commitment to continuing strong cooperation with regional governments to support sustainable economic growth, boost employment—especially for women and youth—and address key challenges such as energy, transport and water infrastructure, as well as cross-border environmental and health risks.

Prior to this, Benhassine led the World Bank’s office in Pakistan from 2020 to 2025. His new portfolio includes 85 active projects with total commitments exceeding $11 billion, aimed at supporting social and economic modernization across Central Asia.
