Damascus Airport in Syria to Reopen for International Flights
World
On January 7, the Damascus International Airport is set to reopen for international flights. This announcement was confirmed by the head of Syria’s Civil Aviation and Air Transport Committee, Eshhed Salibi. This decision marks an important milestone for the revival of Syria’s aviation industry.
According to Salibi, preparatory work is currently ongoing to restore operations at both Aleppo and Damascus airports. During this process, international partners are helping to ensure that the airports are ready to receive international flights.
Salibi also highlighted that the reopening of Aleppo and Damascus airports will take into account new requirements set by international aviation companies and air transport networks. On December 18, the first passenger flight from Damascus Airport successfully landed at Aleppo Airport.
Damascus and Aleppo airports are the largest in the country, and their reopening will not only stimulate Syria's aviation sector but also boost tourism and economic development.
The resumption of operations at Damascus Airport ends the long-standing restriction on international flights and air traffic, which had been imposed after the start of the civil war in Syria in 2011. Preparations at the airport aim to ensure it is ready to handle flights from around the world.
