Uzbekistan
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has stressed the need for deep changes in the education sector and announced major personnel reshuffles in the higher education and science system.
Since the beginning of the year, Uzbek school students have won 195 medals at international science Olympiads. They will receive a total of 10 billion soums in rewards, while their teachers will be awarded an additional 3.5 billion soums.
In more than 1,000 schools with foreign language teachers, the number of students obtaining international language certificates has grown 2.5 times within a year.
At the same time, the President noted that while preschool and school education show positive results, reforms in vocational and higher education are still lagging behind.
As a result, several dismissals were announced: First Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation Shokhrukh Daliyev, deputies Otabek Makhkamov and Sarvarxon Buzrukhonov have been relieved of their duties.
In addition, the head of the National Agency for Quality Assurance in Education under the Presidential Administration, Adham Khudaykulov (due to transfer to another position), and the director of the Innovation Development Agency, Sharof Rajaboyev, were also dismissed.
The President underlined that from now on ministers, their deputies, and regional governors must adopt a proactive and preventive approach to ensure major progress across all areas of education.
