A retired US Army general and former adviser to Pence has been appointed to a new role to lead negotiations amid the ongoing war. This newly created position was established due to the ongoing conflict between the two countries.

Donald Trump Appoints Keith Kellogg as Special Envoy for Ukraine and Russia
“Keith has had a distinguished career in both military and business, including serving in critical national security roles during my first administration. He was with me from the very beginning! Together, we will ensure ‘Peace through Strength’ and make America and the world safe again!” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social.

Kellogg previously served as a national security adviser to former Vice President Mike Pence during Trump’s first presidency. In 2017, after Michael Flynn resigned, Kellogg became Trump’s acting national security adviser.

According to Kellogg’s plan to end Russia’s war on Ukraine, he told Reuters in an interview that he would focus on bringing both countries to the negotiating table.

“We tell the Ukrainians: ‘You need to come to the table, or US support will cease,’” Kellogg said in a June interview. “And we tell Vladimir Putin: ‘If you don’t come to the table, we will give Ukraine everything they need to defeat you on the battlefield.’”

Trump’s return to the presidency has raised many questions about the outcome of the Russia-Ukraine war. He pledged to end the war quickly as a key campaign promise but has not provided details on how he will accomplish this.

Some supporters of Ukraine are concerned that Trump’s steps to end the war may harm Ukraine’s security or result in Ukrainian territories being ceded to Russia. However, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said he believes the war will “end sooner” once Trump takes office.

According to reports, Zelenskyy had a “constructive dialogue” with Trump following Trump’s victory in the US presidential election.
