Durov Intends to Enhance Telegram Moderation
Business
Telegram founder Pavel Durov promised to improve the messenger's moderation during a court session in France. According to French media, Durov committed to collaborating with three lawyers to enhance Telegram's moderation processes. This decision aims to ensure user safety and platform compliance with legal standards.
During the session, Durov stated that 15 to 20 million user accounts are deleted monthly due to legal violations. He also noted that over the past six months, data from 10,000 users had been shared with law enforcement agencies in various countries.
Durov's announcement aligns with the ongoing investigation against him in France. The Telegram founder was arrested on August 24, 2024, at Le Bourget airport. He faces charges, including allegations that the Telegram platform was used for illegal activities, such as unauthorized transactions and other criminal offenses.
As part of the investigation, Durov was released on bail of €5 million but is prohibited from leaving France. On December 6, 2024, he testified in Paris court for the first time. Details of the interrogation have not been disclosed yet.
