On August 20, early presidential and parliamentary elections were held in Ecuador. Cristian Surita, who ran for president from the Construye movement instead of the murdered Fernando Villavitencio, came to the polls in a bulletproof vest and helmet.

The footage published by the Ecuavisa TV channel shows that the politician left the polling station, accompanied by several armed policemen. Although the rest of the candidates were not protected by bulletproof vests, voting took place as part of heightened security measures.

According to the election commission, 20% of voters took part in the first three hours after the opening of polling stations.

"To this day, voting is going well," the body said on social media.

On August 20, early presidential and parliamentary elections were held in Ecuador. Eight candidates are running for the highest state post.

Recall that the Ecuadorian presidential candidate from the Construye movement, Fernando Villavicencio, was shot dead on August 9 after a rally in the capital Quito, after which the current President of Ecuador, Guillermo Lasso, declared a state of emergency throughout the country.
