Uzbek Ambassador to Egypt Mansurbek Kilichev and Nile Sugar Executive Director Emad Farid discussed issues of investing in projects in Uzbekistan on 19 July, Dunyo reported.

Emad Farid expressed awareness of the development of Uzbek agricultural sector, the fertility of the land, good water supply, and the existence of a unified state system that unites private farmers:

"These factors motivate the realization of the project to establish sugar production in Uzbekistan. We are ready to implement a large investment project worth $500 million, including a full cycle of sugar beet cultivation and sugar production on 52,000 hectares of land, which is planned to be allocated to our company in Jizzakh region," Emad Farid said.

Nile Sugar Company was established by the Sawiris family (Egypt's richest family) in 2006 to build, operate and manage a beet sugar factory and refinery.

The plant is located in Nubarya, Egypt, along the Alexandria Desert Road, 50 kilometres from Alexandria harbour. The nominal beet processing capacity is 7.5 - 11 thousand tonnes per day.
