Electricity and Natural Gas Tariffs to Rise Again Starting in 2025

Uzbekistan

Starting from April 1, 2025, electricity and natural gas tariffs in Uzbekistan are expected to rise once again. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, Jamshid Qo‘chqorov, confirmed on December 18 at the second plenary session of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis that the newly increased tariffs will take effect on April 1.

According to him, tariff increases have already been implemented in 2024, but another increase is planned for the first half of next year. This decision is being implemented in accordance with previous decisions made by the Cabinet of Ministers.

Despite the price increase, Qo‘chqorov emphasized that subsidies from the budget are still being allocated to the energy sector. These subsidies are necessary because the tariffs do not fully cover costs, and a portion of the gas is imported.

"In the next year's budget, the amount of subsidies for gas and electricity is expected to be 7.5 trillion soums. This year, this figure was 12 trillion soums, meaning it has significantly decreased. This process will continue in 2025-2026, with a sharp reduction expected in 2027. By 2028, subsidies may be completely eliminated," said Jamshid Qo‘chqorov.

It is worth noting that since May 2024, electricity and gas tariffs have been raised, and new social norms have been introduced in the country.
